Elevate Your Bathroom: Art Deco Bathroom Ideas
Take your bathroom back to the 1920s with a glamorous Art Deco design. The widely eclectic feel of Art Deco design isn’t seen often these days but when properly executed it sure is a showstopper. If you’re dreaming of a luxury bathroom then Art Deco is the way to go.
What is Art Deco?
First popular during the Roaring 20s, Art Deco became a firm favourite for home design with the wealthy. From the famous ‘Bizarre’ ceramics collection by Clarice Cliff to the more simplified looks of symmetry and simplicity, Art Deco certainly made its mark on the design world.
With more recent nods to gorgeous Art Deco design in the 2013 film The Great Gatsby and J.K Rowling series Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Both films provide incredible Art Deco inspiration, from the costumes to the sets, you won't be disappointed.
Geometric patterns
Bold geometric patterns might be one of the first things that come to mind when talking about the Art Deco period, and the bathroom is the perfect place to introduce these bold designs. Whether it be through the use of tiles, bathroom wall panels, or wallpaper, there’s an option for every budget.
The bigger and bolder the better. Pattern was a big part of the Art Deco design era, with gold, black and blue being amongst the most popular colour choices.
You can create a bold statement in the form of cubist or even subway tiles. While subway tiles might seem like a reserved choice, they can make a gorgeous statement when paired with other Art Deco features such as gold light fixtures and extravagant roll-top baths.
Luxury Materials
If you want to go all out and spare no expense, an alternative way to achieve a gorgeous Art Deco-style bathroom is through the use of luxury materials such as brushed brass and marble. From gorgeous marble countertops, walls, and flooring to brilliant brass fittings such as showers and taps you can easily create a lavish 1920s look.
There are even options for smaller budgets, in the form of marble effect tiles or wall panels and fittings with a brushed brass finish that can replicate the look and feel of a more lavish Art Deco bathroom.
Vintage fittings and fixtures
If you’re not a fan of bold Art Deco patterns, then vintage fittings and fixtures can create a spectacular Art Deco feel too. Perhaps a classic roll-top bath and pedestal basin, paired with gorgeous brass taps?
Mirror mirror on the wall
The 1920’s were all about elegance and sophistication and bathroom mirrors were no exception. From bold hexagonal shapes to mirrors with gorgeous gold frames there are plenty of Art Deco mirror designs to suit any space.
An extravagant Art Deco mirror can create the perfect focus point of a bathroom. If you have a bathroom with space for a dressing table, this could be the perfect space for your mirror, creating a glamourous space to get ready in the morning or for a girly night out.
Symmetry
Symmetry is a big design feature of the Art Deco style. From double mirrors and twin vanity units to gorgeous matching light fittings, symmetry is perhaps one of the easiest ways to feature this luxury 1920s design in your bathroom.
Add a touch of colour
If you’re looking to add a splash of colour without losing the elegance that comes from this design type then look towards pink, blue, green, and gold.
If you want to go all out, dark purple is also a fabulous colour choice for the Art Deco theme. However, remember don’t get too carried away with your colour choices as these colours can become overpowering when used in smaller spaces.
Art Deco interior design choices can be truly magnificent when completed to a high standard, but it can also be easy to get carried away with pattern and design and go over the top.
We advise picking a couple of Art Deco themes such as marble and gold, or bold patterned tiles and symmetrical lighting instead of making everything in the room Art Deco themed. This way you can enjoy a subtle nod to the extravagant 1920s style without going over the top.
