Large corporations are quick to tell us that the only way to clean our bathrooms thoroughly is to use shop-bought cleaners ladened with chemicals. But underneath the pine-scented aromas are a ton of hazard warnings. Surely this can’t be good for us, or the environment?

Read on to find out how you can clean your bathroom with natural, chemical-free products...

Can I achieve a clean bathroom without chemicals?

Well, the good news is, is that you can achieve a clean bathroom without using a toxic cocktail of chemicals. And with sustainability, natural living and the environment on our minds, more and more people are turning to natural, chemical-free methods of cleaning their bathrooms.

How To Clean Your Bathroom Without Chemicals

Your naturally derived cleaning arsenal should definitely include two of the main dirt busting ingredients which are: baking soda and white vinegar. The only other things you need are some micro fibre cloths and a bit of elbow grease! It really is THAT simple.

Natural ways to clean your bathroom mirrors and shower doors

For clear, streak-free mirrors and shower screens mix 50% white vinegar and 50% water in a spray bottle. Give it a good shake and apply the formula to the surface.

Wipe with a squeegee and follow up with a good buffing using a microfiber cloth. Alternatively, you can use a clean old rag or t-shirt.  You can apply this method to windows and other glass surfaces too!

Our handy previously mentioned vinegar mix is also an excellent way to clean your bathroom tiles and the sealed area around the bath. White vinegar is a natural mould killer all thanks to its acidic nature. The acid breaks down bacteria which makes it perfect for the areas where mould and mildew tend to grow. Unfortunately, vinegar doesn't kill all moulds, so you might have to opt for an alternative if you find it's not working. Check out our blog article below for more methods on removing bathroom mould.

Baking soda mixed with water into a paste is also a great way to remove any dirt and grime that may have built up around your bath, on your floor tiles or around your shower enclosure.

Specifically for grout, work neat baking soda onto the surface with a toothbrush before leaving it to soak and rinsing it with water.

How to clean your toilet without chemicals

Sprinkle baking soda around the top of your toilet before using a cup of undiluted white vinegar to swill the pan. Finally, grab a toilet brush and give the entire toilet bowl a good scrub.

This will not only clean the toilet of stains, but it will also eradicate any strong urine smells that are lingering.

And if you’re struggling with your bathroom smelling of our hero ingredient, vinegar, simply add a few drops of your favourite essential oils (or our favourite, tea tree oil) into your white vinegar / water mix.
