The Key to Clean Shower Glass
Keeping on top of the task and cleaning your shower screen, door or enclosure after every use is good practice. With regular cleaning, it can be easier to keep your glass looking sparkling clean for years to come.
However, if you don’t keep up with regular cleaning, and only give your shower glass a quick clean once a week, there's a higher chance it could become cloudy and dull. Probably the last thing you want!
At some point in our lives we’ve all thought, I’ll clean it later, but the reality is later never comes, and a month down the line no matter how hard you try you can’t get your glass looking clean and shiny. Everyday shower glass cleaning
For every day, cleaning of shower glass, use a shower squeegee as this can help to clean off any water residue, and in turn can prevent limescale build-up. A build-up of limescale can create an unhygienic and dirty-looking surface, making the task of cleaning your glass much more difficult.
If you don’t have a shower squeegee, then a soft cloth can do the job just as well. Simply wipe your shower glass down, removing any excess water and rub slightly harder on water marked areas.

Cleaning your shower glass regularly will not only help to keep it looking as good as new for longer but will also help to prevent any limescale and bacteria build up.

How to clean a shower screen with natural products
While you might think of vinegar as something to add to your fish and chips it’s also perfect for cleaning. Simply mix one-part white vinegar with one-part hot water, apply the solution to your shower glass and wipe clean with a soft cloth. However, if your shower glass has more stubborn staining then leaving the solution on a little longer and reapply a couple of times should still give you the shining shower glass you desire.
If you’re looking for something that not only cleans your glass but leaves a fresh smell too, then add one part lemon juice to the above mixture. This will not only leave your glass looking as good as new but if you like the smell of lemon you’ll also benefit from a lovely fresh smell in your bathroom.
Is there really anything baking soda can’t do? Well, it definitely doesn’t fall down when used to clean shower glass. To get your shower glass sparkling, simply mix together a couple of tablespoons of baking soda with some warm water, just enough to make a paste. Spread the paste over your shower screen, paying particular attention to the worst stain-affected areas, leave on for about 10 minutes, then wipe clean with a damp cloth.

Are water softeners worth it?
If you live in a hard water area, you might consider purchasing a water softener. A water softener works to eliminate calcium and magnesium from your water and in turn, will make your water softer. Using a water softener can help to reduce residue from building up on shower glass, making it easier to keep clean and shiny.
Preventing mould on your shower screen
Not only can your shower glass become dull and misty if it’s not cleaned regularly but it can also develop a build-up of mould. One way to help prevent this is to keep your bathroom or ensuite well ventilated, leaving windows open where possible but an extractor fan is a wonderful alternative or even addition to an open window.
Where possible, preventing mould before it starts to grow is a much better solution than treating mould, as there is always the risk of it coming back, no matter how hard you try to remove it.
However, if you have a mild build-up of mould on shower glass it’s possible to keep it at bay by carrying out the regular cleaning routines mentioned above. For set in mould, it’s advisable, to replace your shower glass or shower screen completely.

What type of shower screen is easiest to clean?
If you’re looking for a new shower screen you might be wondering what type is easiest to clean. Most shower screens are pretty straightforward to clean with just one flat sheet of glass but some come with grid patterns that provide more nooks and crannies for bacteria and limescale to build up. If you’re prepared to clean your screen thoroughly 2 or 3 times a week a grid shower screen can still be kept shiny and bacteria-free.
However, if you have less time to give your shower screen a thorough clean then a simple glass panel screen is best. With the ability to slide a shower squeegee over quickly and easily this is also, perhaps the best type of shower screen for a family bathroom.
